Windows Phone 8 devices support NFC (Near-Field Communication) connectivity, allowing your device to send files, websites and more to other NFC-enabled devices simply by touching the two devices together. This guide explains to Windows Phone 8 users how to share files, websites, contacts, apps and games with other devices by using the NFC feature.

All smartphones which run the Windows Phone 8 operating system support a useful connectivity feature which allows you to share things like apps, files, games, contacts, images and other files simply by tapping your phone against another device running the same operating system. In certain situations, some items may also be shared with devices running newer versions of the Goggle Android operating system. This wireless connectivity feature is known as NFC, or near-field communication. You may also pair your Windows Phone with any other device which supports NFC, such as various Bluetooth devices.

Before you begin, ensure that both phones are unlocked and that NFC sharing is enabled on both devices. On the home screen, swipe to the left to reveal the full list of shortcuts and scroll down to reach “Settings”. Scroll down this list to find “tap+send” and ensure that the feature is enabled. For transferring larger files, you should also turn on the Bluetooth feature which you can find on the Settings page.

1. Sharing Files or Websites

Open the file you want to share, whether it is a document, video, audio track or image. If you want to share a website, open your browser and navigate to the website you want to share.

The phones should be within an inch or two of one another, and preferably touching for the connection to work reliably. Some devices are marked with an NFC logo to show where the actual receiver is located.

Tap “Accept” on the receiving phone Wren the notification appears. The file will now appear in the associated location.
