How to Get Rid Of Gadgets in Windows Vista

If you use Windows Vista as your Operating System, you might be familiar with these OS gadgets and sidebar features. These features can help you customize and organize your desktop. However, if you do not find the gadgets and the sidebar useful, you can remove them.

The sidebar is the long, vertical bar you can see on one side of your desktop, while the gadgets are the little stuff that fills your sidebars and functions for easy access to small information, pictures, time, etc. There are default gadgets on your sidebar, such as the clock, slide show, and many more. If you want to eliminate them, you can try many options.

If you want to close the gadget in the meantime and not completely delete it, you can right-click on the gadget and click close. You can still reappear the gadget when you decide you want it back. You go to the Gadget Gallery, look for that specific gadget, and click the button to activate it. You can turn off the gadgets using the Control Panel if you wish. Here is what you need to do.

Go to Start and click on the Control Panel.

Type ‘features’ in the search box. When the results appear, look for ‘Turn Windows Features On/Off.’ Afterward, open it.
Look for the Windows Gadget Platform and uncheck it.
Click OK and restart your laptop or personal computer to see the changes.

You can also opt to delete the gadgets permanently on your computer by uninstalling them. To uninstall, click on the plus sign (+) located at the top of your sidebar. Look for the gadget you want to uninstall and right-click on it. Select the uninstall option from the pop-up menu that appears to remove the gadget.

This will delete your gadget from the Gadget Gallery. If you also want to delete the sidebar, you can delete it usdoesodd/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. If you feel your OS gadgets and sidebar features are not that handy for your computer use, you are free to remove them. Generally, this is going to get rid of them for good. However, if you’re having different problems, you may want to contact Microsoft directly.
